Abstract

This research describes the poverty of women in Remote Indigenous Community locations. The author explains the system of division of labor among women and the imbalance in access and authority over agricultural land by showing attention to gender formulation by taking information from both parties, men and women. This research was conducted in Durian Hamlet, Buhu Village, Tibwa District, Gorontalo Regency. The research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach using interview, observation and documentation data collection techniques. Research informants were determined using snowball sampling. The research results show that women’s weak authority over access and control over agricultural land indicates unequal gender relations. This imbalance can be seen in the pattern of agricultural land control which is characterized by men having access and control over cultivating the land. The culture and structures that require the cultivation of agricultural land fall into the hands of men and leave women shackled to poverty. Poverty is not only related to low levels of consumption and income, but also to powerlessness in the decision-making process and access to ownership/control of agricultural land.
